What size should I choose for my above ground pool?

Steel is a very resistant material that allows the realization of large pools size, especially in the case of galvanized steel.

Note: its lightness also makes it easy to handle, which is a real plus during assembly!

Depending on its use

The needs are quite different depending on whether the pool is:

  • more or less reserved for children and water games: a small depth so that they have a foot, between 90 cm and 1m20. The size chosen must take into account the number of people who are likely to bathe together.
  • used by swimmers, the pool must be long enough, 6m minimum, to do at least a few strokes and of a comfortable depth, 1m20 minimum. If the size of your garden does not accommodate this length, consider swimming against the current.

Note: Remember to secure your pool

Depending on the terrain

The steel swimming pool kits give free rein to any type of ground: there are some for above-ground installation as well as for underground or semi-underground construction. So the slope of the land is not prohibitive for the installation of a steel swimming pool. On the other hand, the configuration of the land is important, as well as its exposure: a swimming pool is set up in the sun, out of reach of falling leaves from trees or shrubs.
Also check the presence of electric wires or pipes which could, in the more or less long term, be damaged by the consequent weight represented by your pool. Once you have calculated how much land is available, you have to think about the equipment that invariably accompanies a swimming pool: the surroundings and the technical room.

  Depending on the budget

Although a large swimming pool is always more comfortable, this size can entail significant costs in terms of the volume of water to be treated: cleaning products, energy to operate the filtration system. Besides, who says more water to be filtered means a a larger technical room.

What shape of Above the ground swimming pool to choose?

Steel pools are generally round or oval.

  • round swimming pool is perfect in a small garden, and its shape invites games, discussion, and relaxation. Big or small, it is always very aesthetic.
  • An oval swimming pool will lend itself more easily to swimming and allow its occupants to have different activities at the same time.

Should a concrete slab be laid for an above the ground swimming pool?

above the ground swimming pools are particularly stable. When the ground is perfectly flat, firm, and level, a concrete slab is not necessary.
On the other hand, if you have to level the ground, or install your swimming pool on a slope, the concrete slab is mandatory: in a round pool of 4m60 in diameter and 1m20 in-depth, it is not less than 18m3 of water, i.e. 18 tons to support.
